African Muslims

There are a large number of Black Muslims on the planet with the highest concentration being located in Africa. Although there are Black Muslims in the United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK), France, Netherlands, Italy, Germany and other parts of Europe. The most well-known Muslims countries are located in Africa and the Middle-East. Some of the African Muslim countries are notably, Nigeria; Nigeria is the largest country in Africa by its sheer population size and it is the second largest country in the continent of Africa. Just a little over half the population is actually Muslim with them residing mostly in the northern part of the country. Nigeria has the second largest number of Muslims after Egypt in North Africa. Muslims and Islam in Nigeria was firstly recorded in the 9^th century, about Two Century’s after the religion first entered into the continent. Islam spread in the country by the influence of the Bornu Empire which ruled over much of the country at that particular time. Much of the country abided by their traditional religions, even so, Islam was spreading slowly at first, being embraced by the people in the country from the North to the South.

Muslims in South African and Kenya

 In South Africa many Muslims actually came from the slaves that were brought to the country from South East Asian countries such as Indonesia. Other Muslims came about through reverting to the religion or people emigrating from other parts of Africa into the South. Another important country is Kenya, even though Islam may not be the majority religion of the population such as with Nigeria, it still holds a firm grasp on the people there since it borders Somalia; a nation with 99.9% Muslims. Traders brought the religion of Islam with them and married local people which brought about Swahili people which are mostly Muslims.

Population of Muslims in Africa

Africa is the World’s largest continent with over a 1,000,000,000 people living on that landmass. Muslims in Africa are very unique in many ways and have one of the most diverse cultural backgrounds of any people on Earth. The landmass of Africa spans over 30,000,000 Square KM. Since Africa resides mostly within the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn it has lots of natural resources and good climate and diverse wild life which other countries in the World admire. Africa is also known for its diverse Muslim inhabitants, accounting for about one out of every four Muslims on the Earth. The religion of Islam in Africa dates all the way back to the time of the Prophet Mohammad (SAW). Islam in African Countries has given rise to a people who are devout in their religion and strengthened the bond of Brotherhood and Sisterhood amongst the people. African people know the pitfalls of tribalism and breaking people up into different groups and social classes, it’s only the religion of Islam in Africa which has sought to break this and bring people together to Worship Allah Subhana Wa’Taa’ala with the ultimate goal being Paradise Inshallah.
